• What is this project about?
The "STAY OR LEAVE - spotlight on migration in the rural areas (RurSITU)" is the two-year project coordinated by Geographical Institute "Jovan Cvijić" Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and involves 6 partners from Serbia. The project is the one of the winners of the Public Call for funding citizen science research projects in 2023, which was announced by the Center for the Promotion of Science (CPN) and the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Serbia.
• What is the main focus ?
The Project is focused on the population's motivation and intentions
to stay or leave rural areas. The stayers as ‘rural keepers’ are in the spotlight,
as well as ‘catching‘ the causality between individuals' perception of rural areas
and local characteristics. The research will encompass six municipalities
with similar natural and societal features.
Project benefits are various,
represented by outcomes highly available to citizens and affirmative for
rural life and further rural development.
• What are our goals ?
The Project specific goals are:
- to highlight the main drivers of staying in rural areas;
- to identify spatial patterns for immobility and mobility;
- to detect the factors that affect the decision to leave the birthplace
from citizens' perspectives, beyond the scientifically established facts;
- to create a box of good practices, supported by citizens'
initiatives and local knowledge;
- to make it visible and instructive for other rural residents,
which could impact the doubts about staying or leaving;
- to enable citizens’ networking and knowledge sharing;
- to stimulate citizens’ participation in scientific research activities.
